      The Thirteen Hours Of Life

A great historical novel about the life and work of a 17th century Dutch painter, combined with thirteen classical paintings. Already at a young age Sebastiaan de Vries shows a remarkable talent to paint. He starts to learn and becomes a true masterpainter.

His life, howver, takes a dramatic turn when he becomes a victim of the rich and powerful merchant, Charles Bourget. After a series of tragic events, during which Sebastian is forced to travel through different European countries, the artist ends up in a little village in England. Here he turns into an old grumpy man, but keeps painting.

Then, totally unexpected, he is visited by the twelve years old Thomas Norton. The boy refuses to leave the house and slowly starts to reveal the dark secrets of the mysterious painter ...

The Thirteen Hours Of Life is a novel about power, love, betray and destiny. Robert Mann has written a fascinating story about one of the most moving periods in European history. Trade, war, slavery, disease; it is all covered by this beautiful novel, a real pageturner.
